Movie Review for: Michael Clayton
Michael Clayton is the problem solver for dirty messes a law firm cannot handle on their own. When one situation unravels around him, Clayton finds he may be in over his head. With the law firm turning its back on him, Clayton has to get creative in order to save himself.
George Clooney give the same cool headed performance we are used to. He does not stray far from the familiar formulas, but Clooney has com a long way since the 80s sitcom The Facts of Life.
Tilda Swinton plays an interesting character in Micheal Clayton. While she always seems the same every role. She is dependable. You can count on Swinton to give a strong performance.
Michael Clayton is a good drama and thriller. The story is strong enough to keep you interested teill the end. You will not regret watching this movie.
No commentsMovie Review for: The Brave One
One night in Central Park, Erica Bain is what the police consider another victim of the many crimes in New York. When her attackers kill her finance, Bain picks up a gun and burrs the line between justice and revenge.
Jodie Foster gives her usual performance, nothing special.
While the idea of taking down every thug that makes going out at night a dangerous prospect is appealing, The Brave One fall short. The movie uses too much voice-over by Foster’s character to show the transition from victim to vigilante. It is as if the writer though the audience was too stupid to understand this transition and decided to spell it out for us. It is a little insulting.
The Brave one appears destined for greatness, but some small problems make it hard to sit though. You can probably find a better way to spend your evening than watching The Brave One.
No commentsMovie Review for: Vantage Point
The President is shot during a speech and the stadium in bombed in Spain. 8 strangers see different key points to the puzzle. Can they figure out what is going on and who is really behind it all?
Vantage Point has a long list of big names: Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver, and William Hurt. They all give a little to keep from bogging down the complicated story.
As long as you are willing to sit through watching the same 10 minute sequence 8 times, Vantage Point may be a good choice for you. This movies has some pretty good action to keep the story moving between the many plot twists and turns.
Vantage Point is definitely a good way to spend the evening.
No commentsMovie Review for: Otis
When a teenage girl is kidnapped by a serial killer her family faces the possibility show we be cut into 100 pieces. They decide to take matters into their own hands toting axes, hammers, and chainsaws.
Daniel Stern, Illeana Douglas, Kevin Pollak, and Jere Burns all come together for a good dark comedy about a serial killer and the family set on giving him a taste of his own medicine. Plus we get to see Ashley Johnson long after her days on Growing Pains playing Kirk Cameron’s little sister.
Otis feels more like a made for TV movie if a cable network could pay off the FCC. But it is still pretty good for straight to DVD.
Otis leaves you with a cliffhanger ending that definitely leaves room for a sequel. It is not a crowd pleaser for most movie goers, but is fun for the person who loves dark humor.
No commentsMovie Review for: 10,000 B.C.
A nomadic hunter strikes out to save his tribe and find destiny has a plan larger than he could dream for himself.
10.000 B.C. Has a lot of down time between plot points. This deliberate change of pace compared to modern action movies is probably used to reflect the characters’ lives. Unfortunately, the mystery surrounding a lost civilization does not make up for the slow pace or subtitles. Unfortunately, the few and less than intense action sequences make the audience wonder if 10,000 B.C. should really be under the action category rather than drama.
If you like reading about Mayan, Aztec, or Egyptian civilizations 10,000 B.C. may be up you alley. But if sitting through a little more than an hour and a half of slow plot, one saber toothed tiger, and a lost civilization does not appeal to you, then save your money and skip 10,000 B.C.
No commentsMovie Review for: Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Turns out using a smokeless bong on an airplane is not such a great idea in this post 9-11 world. Watch Harold and Kumar escape cock sandwiches, break into the states, and clear their names as terrorists.
Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the sequel to Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Escape delivers the same crude humor they serve you in White Castle but we get to watch Kumar grow up a little.
Escape gives you more Neil Patrick Harris. Which is truly entertaining since NPH plays a womanizer in the movie even though he publicly came out in 2006.
No, Escape is not the sort of comedy your grandparents can appreciate. But then again, we cannot reasonably expect high brow humor from they guys who made us laugh with fart jokes. If you liked White Castle, then you can expect a familiar plot that is only slightly less funny than the original.

Movie Review for: What Happens in Vegas
What happens when you get drunk and marry a stranger in Las Vegas? You get an annulment as soon as you ge home. Unless your new spouse wins 3 million dollars on a slot machine. Then a judge makes you work it out for 6 months and attend marriage counseling before you can split the money.
Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz make a good comedy team in WHIV… Some of the real magic happens with Rob Corddry and Lake Bell.
WHIV… is a little predictable. It gives you a different take on love and marriage. The ending is a little hokey, but overall this movie should make you laugh more than a couple of times.
No commentsMovie Review for: Untraceable
Two FBI agents try to find a killer who broadcasts the murders as the websites popularity grows, the victims die faster.
If no one visits the site, then the victim is not harmed. Untraceable makes the audience wonder who the real murderer is with the advanced technology and voyeuristic desire.
Diane Lane does a good job with her role. It is nice to see Colin Hanks break from his popular role in Orange County.
Untraceable has a solid story and keeps the audience interested to the end. There are worst ways to spend a little over an hour and a half.
No commentsMovie Review for: Death at a Funeral
While Daniel attends his father’s funeral, he meets the decease’s secret gay lover. Faced with blackmail Daniel does what any good son would: drug the secret lover/little person with a powerful hallucinogen and hope it all blows over. Because who wants to tell mom dad was really into dudes?
If you are still reading, get ready for a dry comedy that only the Brits can offer. Death at a Funeral is a little slow in spots, but is worth the wait if British humor is your cup of tea.
If you like Little Britain, Shaun of the Dead, or Hot Fuzz, then you may enjoy Death at a funeral. Hey, at least it is better than Mr. Bean. Seriously.
