Movie Review for: Step Brothers
A story of two 40-year-old men who live at home, have no job, and refuse to grow up. At first they are sworn enemies, but become BFF when they realize they are so similar. It seems nothing can go wrong, but their world falls apart and the two have to face the challenge of becoming adults.
Step Brothers is rated R for a reason. Do Not Take the kids to this one. We get to see nut sack on drums, sex in a men’s bathroom, and a woman peeing standing up. Plus the movie drops the f-bomb plenty of times to keep it interesting.
Written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay who both gave us the gems Talladega Nights and Anchorman. It is nice to see McKay transitioned from the Saturday Night Live writer’s room (late 90s and early 2000s) to movie screenplays as well as Bill Chott (Dude, Where’s My Car), Tim Herlihy (Mr. Deeds, Little Nicky, and Big Daddy), and Tina Fey (Mean Girls). Thank god McKay did not leave the SNL writer’s room and stumble out the door like Michael Mccullers and Baby Mama [check out globsnob’s review for more].
Stepbrothers is a great raunchy comedy for the adults. The ending kind of falls apart and makes you wonder if McKay and Ferrell could come up with a great situation, but had trouble with how to leave the story. But the trailers and the first two thirds of the movies is enough to keep you entertained.
Happy Viewing.
No commentsMovie Review for: Semi-Pro
We have a basketball team trying to make it to the NBA in the mid-70’s. Their challenge? Little to no hometown support, bad coaching, and personal demons. Written by Scot Armstrong, who brought us gems such as: The Heartbreak Kid, School for Scoundrels, Starsky & Hutch, Old School, and Road Trip. Really, who can resist Semi-Pro?
Semi-Pro is a great stupid movie. It is a movie you can watch with your friends and are not ashamed to have in your collection. It does not weigh you down with heavy political views or plot. A good stupid movie is easy to enjoy and makes you smile; but does not offer much more than that. It will never make AFI’s top 100, but is a movie we enjoy and may consider a guilty pleasure.
Will Farrell is great to watch. He is magic in television. His career on Saturday Night Live is amazing. He is beautiful in movies. Blades of Glory, Stranger than Fiction, Talladega Nights, Ricky Bobby…the list goes on. Yes, he often gives us the same sort of character in movies, but I think his SNL career proves Farrel’s got some range.
I liked watching Andre Benjamin (a.k.a. Andre 3000 of OutKast) in the movie. This move may prove more progressive in his acting career since his debut in 1995. Best of luck Andre.
If you liked Anchorman, Zoolander, Kicking and Screaming, Elf, or The Ladies Man you will enjoy Semi-Pro. Do not watch the movie expecting Citizen Kane. But Semi-Pro is a good movie if you want a laugh and you want to forget about the world for a while. Isn’t that why we go to the movies in the first place?

No commentsMovie Review for: Grandma’s Boy
When a video game technician finds himself on the street, who is the one person he knows he can turn to? Grandma. How can living rent-free in a house with three grandmothers turn bad? When they find your stash of weed and make tea.
Grandma’s Boy follows the Adam Sandler’s formula for comedy. If you liked Deuce Bigalow,
Little Nicky, Joe Dirt, Mr. Deeds, or Anger Management, you will certainly laugh at Grandma’s Boy.
Allen Covert holds his own in a lead role after standing in Adam Sandler’s shadow for 13 movies. He steps up to the plate and hits one out of the park in the comedy genre.
Linda Cardellini is fun to watch in the movie. She does well in the live-action Scooby Doo movies, ER, and who could not love her in the short lived Freaks and Geeks television series?
Grandma’s Boy is a good stupid movie. It will not win any awards. It will not be a reference for film critics. But it will put a smile on your face and may make you forget about your troubles for an hour and a half.
