Movie Review for: A Scanner Darkly

August 30th, 2008 | Category: Movie Reviews

What happens when you think you lose grip on your undercover job to the surrounding abyss of drugs, dealers, and paranoia around you? You might be a victim of A Scanner Darkly.

The cinematography for A Scanner Darkly is very interesting. It is a live action movie, but animated later with an interpolated rotoscope. The effect is amazing. This style fits perfectly for a story about drugs, paranoia, and self identity.

Keanu reeves holds the lead role as emotionless as any other performance he has ever give. Rory Cochrane at least gives us a good view of his character so tweaked out on drugs, he can barely function. Winona rider probably could have given us something a little more entertaining with her character, she passes muster.

Based on Phillip K. Dick’s novel by the same name, A Scanner Darkly is a pretty good adaptation of the book. Dick’s idea of punishment and controlled substances is so strong, it rings true from to today.

A Scanner Darkly is a great movie if you do not take some time to watch it, you are missing out on some good entertainment. This movie makes you believe just because you are paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.
