Movie Review for: Get Smart
Watch what happens when the secret government agency CONTROL works to fight KAOS. If you liked watching Maxwell Smart battling evil-doers during the Cold War, you will love watching him in post 9/11 present day. And we still don’t know agent 99’s first name. Awesome.
Get Smart is a dream come true for anyone who grew up watching the television series. This movie has just enough depth to offer a good story. It makes some subtle jokes at President Bush and Homeland Security without coming off too liberal.
Steve Carell has some big shoes to fill. Even if they have a phone hidden in the sole. He really shows off his silly man routine we all know and love. I honestly cannot picture another actor filling this role any better than Carell does.
Anne Hathaway plays a good Agent 99. In the television series, Agent 99 was a good role model for young girls; she was strong and was not afraid of being smarter than her male counterparts. It seems Hathaway is trying to break from her goody two-shoes Disney roles and branch out into something a little more dynamic. Hathaway’s work as Agent 99 adds to her building resume. Plus, it’s always nice to see her branching out on the soundtracks as well.
Dwayne Johnson is fun to watch in the movie. It is interesting to see the WWF wrestling star ‘The Rock’ give acting a real go. Not to give too much away, but this role Johnson plays has a little more going for it than you might think.
Get Smart has a PG-13 rating for a reason. I would not recommend this movie for the kids in elementary school. Unless you want an uncomfortable conversation with little Johnny explaining some sexually charged jokes and rude hand gestures.
Get Smart is a good movie and is actually more fun to watch than the previews let on.
